Understanding Value Types

 
As mentioned before, value types give users the ability to create various types of fields for their tests. There are several types of value types that will be reviewed more in depth.

• Number
• String
• Choice
• Calculated

Number

 
The Number Value Type allows users to input whole numbers into the field. This is useful for recording results.

Figure 1 shows an example of building a number value type field. For this field, the user wants to record the Skinfold – Pectoral for the tests. You only need to select the Field Groups, enter the Name, and Number Configuration.
 

String

 
The String Value Type allows users to input text into the field. This is useful for recording notes during testing.

Figure 2 shows an example of building a string value type field. For this field, the user can add notes for Bod Pod - Gender. You only need to select the Field Groups and enter Name.
 

Choice

The Choice Value Type allows users to choose from a dropdown menu for testing.
 

Figure 3 shows an example of building a choice value type field. For this field, the user can select the choices from the choice field for the Gender. You only need to select the Field Groups, enter the Name, and select the Choice Field.
 

Create Choices

Figure 4: This is the front-end view of what choice fields will look like when you create them. You can use the dropdown box and select the choices that you created.
 
To create Choices, select Choices from the Measurements Configuration box and click on +New. 

For this example, we will create a Gender choice. Enter name and Save.

Create Choice Values

To create Choice Values, select Choice Values from the Measurements Configuration box and click on +New. Continuing with our Gender example, we will now create a choice value for the Gender choice and we will put ‘Male’ in the String Value field. Fill out all necessary information and click Save.

• Choice Field – Select the Choice you want to put the choice values for
• Integer Value – Enter integer value
• Decimal Value – Enter decimal value
• String Value – Enter string value
• Position – order of choice

Calculated

•  Creating Calculated Values

 
The Calculated Value Type allows users to view the calculated values for data collected. Users will input the function the back-end and on the front-end, the computed values will appear as data is inputted.

Figure 5 shows an example of building a calculated value type field. For this field, the user can view the computed results of collected values instantaneously.

​Create Calculated Values

To create Calculated Values, select Fields from the Measurements Configuration box and click on +New. Select the Field Group, enter Name, and input the Number Expression. The expression is where you input the formula for the test and it calculates the number values that were entered into the test.

Figure 6 shows an example of a calculated configuration of body density.

In order for the calculated value to pull the information that was inputted, you have to add "measurements." before the name of expression you want to use in the function. The name of the expression can be found in the field when you edit the field.

Calculated values automatically compute the data that is entered into the tests so users can see and review the information instantly.

Figure 7 shows the calculated value of the weight in kilograms when the weight is entered in pounds. 

The system supports most math operations and functions, here is a list of functions you can use. More functions will continue to be added in the future.
